Day One: Session 1. Understanding and Defining the Competence

At the end of this session trainers will be able to:

  • Describe at least three perspectives on the use of Social Entrepreneurship in achieving a goal in a particular context
  • identify the main elements of the competence of Social Entrepreneurship.
  • Define the competence of “ Social Entrepreneurship”

Pre-requisite learning/competence

Experience of working with students in non-formal contexts.

Resources

Laptop and projector, access to academic literature on Social Entrepreneurship.

2.5 hours

Session description [structure, parts, activities]

  1. identification of the session and its learning outcomes
  2. Power Point presentation and video on Social Entrepreneurship: meaning, well known projects and social entrepreneurs
  3. Group work to identify common elements in the projects and examples given beforehand, and to come up with a definition based on the input received
  4. Plenary session to share definitions and clarify concepts

Mode of evaluation

15 min focus group discussion on achievement of learning outcomes

Social Entrepreneurship is the competency to respond to social challenges and create opportunities by undertaking innovative and sustainable projects in collaboration with others.
